one-on-one or small group class.

Instructor: WB Eckert

9am -12noon

Held at Paso Robles Art Association Showroom/Gallery

Learn  the basics of using the iPad to draw and paint digital art with excellent and affordable “Procreate” app.

Legitimizing the iPad as a tool for creating  art, venerable artist and visual explorer David Hockney showed 33 of his 5 foot tall iPad paintings at the De Young Museum in San Francisco In 2013. Many artists today are embracing digital art for sketching and painting, for personal work as well as professional work, both painting and graphic art scenarios. This is an excellent tool for painters as well. It can be used for everyday sketching, compositional layouts, exploring changes to our paintings, and having our digital creations professionally printed very conveniently.

Using the same app that David Hockney used, Procreate, this beginners introduction class will explore the program features, basic navigation, tools, basic actions, and methods of sketching and painting on the iPad; as well as how layers work, sizing your work, and sharing and printing. Students will work hands on exploring this exciting medium on their iPads*.

Materials: (Please read carefully!

  1. *Any iPad that supports iOS 10 and later (iPad4 and up and iPad Pro), or iPad that already has a version of Procreate loaded (older Procreate versions will not have all the current features).

  2. The “Procreate”  app (available on the iPad app store for $5.99 and “Early Access” if applicable $2.99 (in-program purchase - adds perspective guides and perspective assist if not already included).

  3. Standard stylus, pressure sensitive stylus, or Apple Pencil. (You can use your finger for drawing, but accuracy is very difficult in most scenarios).

Questions or more information e-mail or call 805.238.2001.  $45 per student.
